My practice delves into the cyclical and labor-intensive essence of work, intertwining sculpture and performance to investigate themes of motivation, futility, and societal paradigms. Performances such as Lay/Unlay (2022) and installations like Would You Like Fries With That? (2020) juxtapose humor against endurance, critiquing hyperconsumption and power dynamics. Operating from Assembly House in Armley, I employ tools and meticulously rhythmic actions to create immersive works that engage both the physical and conceptual. My work reframes mundane labor as symbolic and monumental, inviting audiences to consider the unseen physical and psychological costs of our work-oriented society.

My work centers on the cyclical patterns of labor, the commodification of time, and the societal structures that define our relationship with work. Drawing on personal experience and industrial motifs, I explore how labor shapes identity, often through repetitive tasks that blur progress with futility.

Performances like Lay/Unlay (2022) embody this duality—offering a meditative exploration of perpetual creation and deconstruction. Using bricks, soundscapes, and deliberate movements, the work immerses audiences in the rhythm of labor, highlighting both its transformative and exhaustive qualities.

Themes surrounding the frequently overlooked human toll of hyperconsumption also surface, as exemplified in Would You Like Fries With That? (2020). This piece interrogates corporate imagery and the perpetual churn of production and consumption, reframing disposable artifacts as emblematic relics that highlight the tension between polished consumer branding and the unvarnished reality of industrial labor.

Pieces like Sand Shifters Vol.3 (2020) delve into endurance and uniformity, reflecting on the worker's role within the larger societal machine. By presenting labor as repetitive and monumental, my practice encourages audiences to question the constructs of productivity and value in their own lives.

Ultimately, my work endeavors to elevate the mundane into the profound, offering both a critique and celebration of the resilience inherent in labor. It seeks to challenge perceptions of work while honoring its enduring rhythms and the human stories entwined within them.

He/Him

I joined here through volunteering during my second year of university. I was drawn to the rawness of the space and the high quality of work being produced by a community of like-minded individuals! Everyone was having a good time whilst smashing out some crazy work.

Two projects stand out as my favourite I've done here at Assembly House,
The first is After You (2021), a performance I developed over two weeks during Christmas 2020. Building a 6ft-tall cube amidst the buzz of new-build renovations was an exciting time for Assembly House. Showcasing the piece to fellow studio holders and volunteers who were helping with the new build.

The second is the Assembly House Group Show 2023, where I performed what I like to call “Mega Sandshifters”. It was a great feeling being able to assemble 7 studio holders at the last minute to get involved after seeing the location! Everyone’s always up for getting involved at Ass-Haus.
